Valentin Joseph Valette – born in 1994 – in the Atlantic Pyrenees in France, is a documentary photographer based in Marseille, France and Tunis, Tunisia.
Driven by both my photographic practice and my studies in Human and Social Sciences, I have developed a keen interest in exploring the use of visual methods as research tools. Whereas, my fascination of the Arab and Muslim Worlds, fuelled by my studies in sociology and political science at the Political Institute of Sciences Po Aix-en-Provence, has resulted in my current situation — living between opposing shores of the Mediterranean. Recently, I joined a research programme on the risks associated with urban areas, at the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development in Tunis (IRD) and the CNRS. Concurrently, I’m working on a doctoral project, focused on a transversal theme between the Maghreb and France, and in addition to this, I have been developing a documentary approach, investigating the contemporary issues of these regions, which have their roots in historical, social, and political matters.
